Cassie Jordana is a mixed media artist who interplays photography with fine art.
The work depicts her female alter ego, a new age, retro cowgirl in an enchanted moonlit desert. The work celebrates mysticism and magic that can be found in Mother Nature and it’s ability to restore and ignite euphoric enlightenment.
The cowgirl holds a gold bound leather book, which reads in Spanish ‘Her Soul Awakened Under The Moon and the Stars’ adding a playful element to the scene. Using oil pastels, metallic fabric paints and lipsticks she creates warm feminine hues.
The work has been inspired by Cassie’s travels to exotic climbs, Morocco and Mexico. The tropical and surreal motifs in the work such as the whimsical cowgirl hat, floating staircase and Moroccan desert rug, reference Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. This is furthered by placing herself in the painting looking down on the moonlit scene, highlights a sense of nostalgia.
